The Ivan Aufulich Papers

12. Olya Kannit

The official obituary of Olya Kannit ("Olya" is a diminutive for "Oleg") says that he died of "chronic cholesterol intoxication". and indeed that is plausible for one of his massive girth and pretensions to gourmandise. But darker rumors whisper of "acute lead poisoning", and it is known that he had attracted the baleful attention of Grisha Skidz, just before the latter's own disappearance.

Poor Olya. Restaurants throughout Moscow are in mourning.
