Fourth World Releases The Wetware Collection

32 Powerful XCMDs and XFCNs for SuperCard

LOS ANGELES, June 5, 1997 - Fourth World(TM) began shipping The Wetware Collection 1.0, a new collection of externals that add a wide range of new capabilities to SuperCard, the multimedia authoring system from Allegiant Technologies.

The Wetware Collection consists of 32 powerful new or enhanced externals by Mark Lucas of Wetware, Inc., bundled together for one low price. The Wetware Collection ships in a revised version of the same easy-to-use project as Fourth World's SCX and SuperCard's Xtend project, which provides an interactive demo of every external and flexible, easy-to-use installation options.

"No one has written more externals for SuperCard than Mark Lucas." said Richard Gaskin, founder and president of Fourth World. "We're very excited about being able to offer some of his most valuable work in one affordable package.".

The Wetware Collection includes the following XCMDs and XFCNs:

o Alias2Path XFCN and Path2Alias XFCN
Let you easily create, store, and resolve alias records
(as user properties, for example) allowing for more
reliable and flexible file management than hard-wired path names.

o BringToFront XCMD
Brings the specified application to the front to make it the active application.

o ChangedFiles XFCN WWC1
Determines which files in a list you pass have changed
since the specified date and time.

o Colors XFCN WWC1
Converts between various color space models and/or
representations thereof, or lets the user choose a
color from the picker; also creates 'clut lists' from SC
fields, which display sample swatches plus all the
common numeric representations of each color.

o CountScrapPages XFCN WWC1
Returns the number of pages in the specified scrapbook.

o FileCopy XFCN WWC1
Copies the file at the full path specified by srcFile
to the full path specified by dstFile. Works even on
Appleshare drop boxes, between server volumes, on
invisible or open files, etc. Two optional parameters
let you specify a progress message (which the XFCN
will send to your project each time it moves one copy
buffer worth of data) and the size of the copy buffer
to use. For best performance copy buffers should be
specified in multiples of 512 bytes. Optimum buffer
size can allow FileCopy to significantly better the
Finder's copy performance on large files.

o FinderOpen XFCN WWC1
A simple external for launching applications with
documents. Unlike SC's internal launch command,
this works properly even when the target app is
already open.

o FinderPrint XFCN WWC1
Prints documents owned by other applications.

o FormatNum XFCN WWC1
Provides a wide variety of formatting options for numeric
strings, including embedded literals, scientific notation, etc.;
auto-localizing.

o GetMachineLoc XFCN WWC1
Returns the machine location information, as set by the Map
Control Panel.

o Grid XFCN WWC1
Makes simple grids and tables, and optionally populates
them from tab-delimited data. It allows user control over
table size, row and column labels (including font and size),
cell data font, size, alignment and truncation, and
destination (pictureData or clipboard). Grids can also be
created with sample data for layout purposes.

o HiliteRGB XFCN WWC1
Returns the current system default highlight color as
an RGB value. Under SC 2.5.2 or higher, you may also
pass in three params by reference (@r,@g,@b) to get
the components separately.

o IcsxName XFCN WWC1
Lets you make SuperCard menus appear as icons in the
menu bar.

o KCHR XFCN WWC1
Allows you to get or set the System default keyboard
mapping (i.e., KCHR resource), as specified in the
Keyboard Control Panel.

o Key XFCN WWC1
With its companion ScanCode XFCN, provides access to
the MacOS KeyMap structure, which lets you determine
what key is pressed.

o MakeAlias XFCN WWC1
Creates an alias file to the specified file, optionally
with a particular name in a particular folder.

o MergeScrapBooks XFCN WWC1
Merges the specified scrapbooks by interleaving their
pages.

o NameScrapItem XFCN WWC1
Allows you to name the specified page in the target
scrapbook.

o QTVersion XFCN WWC1
Returns the current QuickTime version, or '0.0'
if QuickTime is not available.

o Round XFCN WWC1
Rounds numbers with more control than SuperCard's
built-in round function. Works correctly on numbers
with thousands separators, scientific notation,
percentages; auto-localizing.

o sc3FieldToFile XFCN WWC1
Creates a SimpleText file from the contents of the
specified field (SimpleText is the style-aware successor
to Apple's TeachText).

o sc3FieldToRez XFCN WWC1
Creates a new 'TEXT' and 'styl' resource pair from the
contents of the specified field.

o sc3RezToField XFCN WWC1
Sets the contents of the specified field to the styled
text from the TEXT/styl resources in the named file.

o sc3SetStyle XCMD WWC1
Sets font, size, colors and style for open fields. Unlike
SC3's internal text-styling functions, it works correctly
on open fields with an insertion point; also does not bog
down when manipulating fields with many style runs
(as SC3 does).

o sc3SwapStyles XFCN WWC1
This 'search and replace' function for style information
lets you change specific style attributes for an entire
text field in a single call.

o sc3TweakFontMenus XFCN WWC1
Dresses any text-related menus you may have installed
in the menubar to reflect the properties of the current
selection (if any) or the global text attributes if no
field is open.

o ScanCode XFCN WWC1
Provides access to the MacOS KeyMap structure, which lets
you determine what key is pressed.

o SecretMsg XFCN WWC1
Allows you to write a message (up to 255 characters) in
the private area at the bottom of the message box which
SuperCard reserves for its own status messages; can also
retrieve existing status messages SC has written to this
area. Unlike 'put', does not close the selectedField (if any).

o SetMachineLoc XFCN WWC1
Sets the current system location as seen in the Map Control
Panel.

o SMVersion XFCN WWC1
Returns the current Sound Manager version, or '0.0' if
the Sound Manager is currently unavailable.

SysDirs XFCN WWC1
Returns a list of full paths to all important System-related
folders, including the System, Apple Menu Items, Control Panels,
Extensions, Preferences, Fonts, and other required system folders.

All externals are royalty-free, and can be used in any number of freeware, shareware, or commercial products.
